Unhappy Accident

I’m in an extreme amount of pain right now. Lesson learned = never run! Okay, just kidding. But this is what happened:

I ran my long run on Saturday, so I shouldn’t even have been out running yesterday, but Ben wanted to go for a jog, so I said I would do an easy two miles with him. He doesn’t run in our neighborhood very often, so he’s not quite familiar with which streets have four-way stops and which streets don’t. And we were coming up to a street where the traffic doesn’t stop, and he was about to get hit by a car, so I opened my mouth to yell for him to stop, and at precisely that moment, I guess I tripped over a rise in the sidewalk.

I don’t remember tripping or how it happened, but I do remember thinking ‘I am falling, and this is going to hurt extremely badly, and there is nothing I can do to stop it.’ And I fell, reeeally hard. And skidded like two feet down the sidewalk. In a tank top, which I NEVER wear while running. So I scraped the crap out of my left shoulder, my right knee, my left hip, both of my palms, and the top of my left hand. I got up and said (or actually probably screamed) “I’m okay!” and then walked home (we were only a few blocks away) like it was no big thing. Because I’m so hard core. And then I sat on the edge of the tub and Ben poured hydrogen peroxide all over my wounds, and I sobbed like an infant. I don’t remember the last time I cried about getting hurt. Like, I was probably eight. Maybe younger than eight. Sooo… it was pretty bad.

I bled through three sets of bandages last night and now I have some pretty intense bruises on my knee and hips (and I’m sure my shoulder, too, but it hurts so bad that I refuse to look at it). I look amazing, as you can imagine! I’m really nervous now because I’m supposed to run the Shamrock Shuffle 8k this coming Sunday — and then the following Saturday, I’m in Ben’s sister’s wedding wearing a dress that shows both my shoulders and my knees. Sigh. Horrible timing. Hopefully I heal swiftly.

A happy result of this unfortunate accident was that I took the day off from work to rest and recover. And during that unexpected free time, I was able to totally enter 2012 and create social media buttons for my blog! It actually took me a really long time to understand all the framework, create button images for everything, and figure out the html code for opening links in a new window. But I did it! It might not be a huge deal, but it’s an awesome sense of accomplishment, especially for a lazy day off work. Yep, you should probably go check those out now. :) I also learned some more about Twitter and HootSuite and Facebook Pages… I am officially starting to learn technology that is completely old news to everyone but me! Awesome.

I also took a random picture of my breakfast this morning because it rocked. I’m in looove with Van’s Gluten Free Apple Cinnamon Waffles. Seriously, go buy some right away. We only had two left this morning, so I obligingly shared with the mister. I spread some creamy peanut butter on my waffle and then sliced up a few strawberries to top it all off… So. GOOD. I’m obsessed.

Hope everyone else is healthy and well! Let me know your secrets for healing quickly… :)
